The Last Airbender

I going to see the The Last Airbender this weekend, but before I go, I want to write my "before the movie" review based soley on the trailer. First of all, when I saw the trailer, I just knew this would be an exciting movie and theme. Fantasy, science fiction and action all rolled into one movie combining martial arts and super powers. This is right up my alley.

It's not just super powers, its about controlling the elements that has intrigued me. Since seeing the trailer, I have been daydreaming about myself having such command of the elements at my disposal. I've asked myself, what would I do with such abilities. My day dreams have me reversing hurricanes which threaten our beautiful islands and coastlines by manipulating wind and water, or of me eventually saving the west coast from the imminent destruction of an earthquake which would send the area sinking into the Pacific ocean, or using the fire element to burn off the oil draining in the gulf and to implode the hole closed. Well, such is my personal fantasy of elevating myself to hero status. But... isn't that what most people want - to rise from their ordinary existence and use their gifts to accomplish something larger than life. Dreams of being gifted shouldn't just be wasted on fantasy created by writers and movie producers.   I also have dreams of using those gifts a little selfishly, I could actually make my own island paradise with my earth power, place water arround it, use my fire power to grow beautiful plants and enjoy a nice wind to cool off the heat.  That's almost God-like (smile).

I did a quick sneak of a couple reviews to find that the movie hasn't gotten great reviews, which is too bad for the movie critics. Frankly, I enjoyed watching more trailers than reading the critics. I predict that the ordinary movie goer will love this action packed movie and special effects while vicariously projecting themselves into one or more the character roles as they attempt to do the inconceivable. At least I will. Watch for my after the movie review to see if I have to eat these words.
